# Tips for Transitioning Through Your Divorce

Divorce is difficult. It can be an emotional, aggravating, and time-consuming process. It can be challenging to make decisions and grows more complicated if you have children together. The attorneys at Norman Dowler, LLP want to offer you tips to help you smoothly transition through this adjustment in your life.

## Think Logically and Communicate

Ultimately, your children are your priority and you want to do what is best for them. Consider co-parenting to work together in raising your children. Though you no longer have a romantic relationship with your spouse, it is crucial to work with them for the benefit your children. You will always have your children in common with your former spouse, which means communication will still play a role, unless you have other custody arrangements.

It is important to remember that divorce is personal, and your children should be kept out of it. Think logically when making decisions about the divorce, parenting, and discussing your spouse in front of them. Regardless of age, divorce is a sensitive topic and should not involve your children or other family members.

## Get Your Finances in Order

You will likely be introduced to some big financial changes while going through a divorce. Make a budget and set goals for yourself. You may not be able to make big purchases during this time and may have to sacrifice a few things in your typical budget. Use perspective to understand how you can enhance your life, rather than wasting time condemning your spouse. It will not only affect you, but those around you as well. Reach out to friends or family and focus on relationships that encourage happiness.

## Time is the Ultimate Healer

They say time heals all wounds, and as cliché as the phrase is, it always holds true. Know and accept that time is only going to make this process easier and bearable. Be realistic in setting goals for yourself and know that you may not be able to curb your emotions the week after divorce papers are served.
